From Project Support to an Incubation Ecosystem

The ECOSYSTEM VLG world incubation platform grew out of years of experience supporting project teams, developing training resources and accompanying projects from their initial formulation through to implementation.

Part of this experience originated within the ecosystem surrounding applied project-management training and the support of teams participating in the MOOC GdP.

Over time, this practice evolved beyond project support.

It led to the development of an incubation approach capable of connecting knowledge, research, programmes, territorial needs, emerging capabilities and concrete projects.

Today, this experience is integrated into the broader architecture of ECOSYSTEM VLG world.

A Distributed Incubation Architecture

Incubation is not organised around a single physical centre.

It operates as a distributed architecture connecting people, knowledge, territories and capabilities.

Two complementary incubation levels structure this approach:

LABELS — Global Incubator develops and structures programmes, labels, methodologies and capabilities that can operate across different contexts and territories.

CUB — Local Incubators provide spaces for contextualisation, experimentation, capability development and territorial implementation.

Together, they create a bridge between global architectures and local realities.

Supporting Projects Without Replacing Their Owners

Incubation is designed to strengthen the autonomy and capabilities of project teams.

Depending on the context and maturity of an initiative, support may include:

  • clarification and structuring of an idea;
  • project modelling;
  • identification of required capabilities;
  • connection with relevant knowledge, programmes or labels;
  • development of governance and operational structures;
  • experimentation and prototyping;
  • territorial adaptation;
  • identification of partners and contributors;
  • preparation for implementation;
  • evaluation and progressive development.

The objective is not to take ownership of projects, but to help create the conditions in which they can become viable, autonomous and capable of evolving.

A Network of Contributors

The incubation architecture can mobilise contributors with different forms of expertise and experience.

Depending on the project, accompaniment may take place remotely, locally or through a combination of both.

Contributors may intervene at different stages of the incubation process according to the capabilities required by the project and its territory.

This distributed model makes it possible to assemble appropriate support around a project rather than requiring every project to follow the same predefined pathway.

From Knowledge to Territorial Action

The incubation process creates continuity between research, architecture, programmes and implementation.

Research → Architecture → Programme / Label → Capability → Incubation → Project → Territorial Deployment

Not every research result becomes a programme.

Not every programme becomes a project.

And not every solution should be reproduced identically from one territory to another.

Incubation provides the intermediate space in which knowledge can be tested, contextualised and progressively transformed into operational capabilities.

One Ecosystem, Multiple Pathways

Projects may emerge from research, communities, territories, organisations, entrepreneurs or members of the ecosystem.

Some may enter through LABELS — Global Incubator.

Others may emerge directly within a CUB — Local Incubator.

Some may remain experimental.

Others may develop into autonomous organisations, programmes or territorial capabilities.

The incubation architecture is designed to allow these different trajectories while maintaining coherence, traceability and connection with the wider ECOSYSTEM VLG world.
